The rate you are charged depends on the duration of the rental and your choice of car, luxury or economy, large or small. Avis has daily, weekly and monthly rates and the minimum rental period is 24 hours.      BREAKDOWN AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE   Calling The Avis Careline In the unlikely event that your vehicle should let you down or any roadside or medical emergency arise you simply call our 24 hour CARELINE TOLLFREE on 0800 001 669. No matter what time of day or night you call, you'll find someone on the other end of the line ready to try harder for you!      TERMS & CONDITIONS Driver’s licence   Renters and additional drivers must be in possession of a valid unendorsed driver's license of country of residence. If driver's license is non-roman alphabet, an international driver's license is required. Please note that Foreigners must also produce a valid passport.  The minimum age is 21 years and driver's license must have been valid for a minimum of 1 year. It is a legal requirement in RSA to be in possession of your drivers license at all times whilst driving a vehicle. There is no maximum age, however, super PAI is not available to persons over the age of 75 years.      Weekend rentals   Payment of Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Loss Waiver covers 80% of the total responsibility on weekend rentals. No additional drivers will be permitted on weekend rentals countrywide.   Please Note: A minimum authorisation amount of R5000 is required for all weekend rentals taking place in the Northern Provinces, Gauteng and Free State (INLAND) and R2500 is required for all weekend rentals taking place in Kwazulu Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape (COASTAL) and is only payable by credit card.     Cross Border Rental   No cross border rentals are allowed from South Africa to Malawi, Angola or Zambia, even if returning to South Africa. Cross border rentals to Namibia are permitted at an additional cost of NAD 920. 00. This fee is payable at the Namibian border and is applicable if driving a non-Namibian vehicle. Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho or Namibia must be in possession of a letter of authority obtainable from the Avis rental office at time of rental. An additional ZAR 4063.00 (incl tax) will be charged to cross border rentals into Namibia and Botswana.   Please Note: Cross border rentals into Zimbabwe and Mozambique have been temporarily suspended.     Additional Drivers   All drivers must be listed on the applicable rental agreement. There is a charge for additional drivers. If an unlisted driver is involved in an accident, or theft of the vehicle, the renter will be liable for full damage/ replacement costs.     Petrol   This is not included in our rates. Cars are delivered full and the customer is charged for full refill upon termination of rental. Fuel consumption is gauged from customer service centre to customer service centre.   Rental Contract Fee A rental contract fee is applicable to all rentals. There is a legal requirement to store documents for a period of 5 years. The fee is for the cost for the administering, storing and retrieving all rental contracts.     Method of Payment   Avis accept Avis honoured credit / charge cards, American Express, Diners Club, Master Card and Visa Card.   Please note: Avis South Africa DO NOT accept Debit cards/Cheque cards, all numbers must be raised on card.
