 ABOUT

Botlierskop Private Game Reserve
is situated on a 3000ha game reserve between the Garden Route towns of Mossel Bay and George. This beautiful safari and game lodge is set amongst spectacular mountain ranges on the Garden Route area of South Africa. The Bolierskop Private Game Reserve is in a malaria free area and offers an immense diversity of wildlife and activities coupled with luxurious tented accommodation in beautifully appointed private suites. These tented safari suites at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve are discreetly positioned along a riverbank. The Botlierskop safari and game reserve comprises of over 26 different species of animals and more than 200 different species of bird. Wildlife at the Botlierskop Private Game and safari lodge includes the rare black Impala, elephants, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, mountain zebra, eland and lions (in an separate enclosure as we breed with the black impala).

Each of the 15 luxury tented and air-conditioned suites at Botlierskop Private Game and safari reserve are elegantly adorned in a romantic colonial theme with 4-poster beds voluptuously draped in mosquito nets. The en-suite tented facilities at Botlierskop are lavishly equipped with deep baths, open-air showers and stunning panoramas. The amazing pool at the game reserve with it’s breathtaking views of the valley below is balm for the soul and wonderfully relaxing. The large, open-air deck, with its unobstructed valley vista’s, seamlessly integrates the unique fauna and flora of the Garden Route area with soothing African bush ambience in the distance.

The Spa at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is situated on the riverbank and is surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery. The Botlierskop Spa consists of two treatment rooms aptly named Fauna and Flora. Other activities on offer at Botlierskop game reserve include guided 4x4 game drives, elephant back rides, picnics in the bush, elephant feedings, horseback safaris and helicopter flips over the game reserve and adjoining area of the Garden Route.

Here at Botlierskop safari lodge and bush spa you can relax and enjoy glorious sunsets on whispery summer nights or seek out either of our two indoor fireplaces for a cozy winter evening. The elegant thatched roof and volcanic rock “Fireplace Restaurant” provides the perfect setting for a unique dining experience. Locally produced live entertainment is provided in the form of drumming circles. Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is easily accessible from both Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Botlierskop is less than 4.5 hours drive from Cape Town along the scenic Garden Route of South Africa. The game reserve is also in close proximity to George Airport – a 30 minute drive. To really soak up the nature and unwind a minimum of 2 or 3 nights are recommended.

Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is an exceptional place for a day visit, romantic getaway, special function, theme evenings, conference or even an intimate bush wedding making Botlierskop safari lodge and spa one of the premium luxury tented game lodges in South Africa.

The Botlierskop Safari Lodge was named after one of the spectacular rock formations on the game reserve. This odd shaped “koppie” is a landmark in the area. In the late 1700’s Mossel Bay was developed as a busy export harbour for wool, ochre and ostrich feathers. According to legend, the “koppie” on the Botlierskop game reserve was used as a look-out point. When ships came in, the owner made a huge fire on the top of the “koppie”. This was a sign for the nearby farmers that a ship was coming in so they could get ready to bring fresh supplies to the ships.

Botlierskop Private Game Reserve was bought by Dr Dirk Neethling (now deceased) in 1996. He has been in the game farming industry since 1960 and saw the opportunity to reintroduce wildlife in this part of the Garden Route. After 4 years of recovering from domestic farming the Botlierskop game and safari reserve was ready to open in the year 2000. This allowed visitors to Botlierskop to experience the beautiful Garden Route game lodge and environment as it was – when wild animals still roamed freely. As mentioned earlier, Botlierskop game reserve is today a leader in the field of breeding with the rare black impala. For this very reason the lions are in their own, private camp at Botlierskop and can be viewed on the 4x4 game viewing safari. The gentle giants of the bush are also part of the family at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. The elephants that joined the Botlierskop team are orphans surviving a culling program in the Zambezi Valley.
