 ABOUT

Situated in the Malaria free & scenic Garden Route area in the Western Cape of South Africa (close to Mossel Bay & George), Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is blessed with a great diversity of habitat and wildlife (Big 5) & offer luxury tented suites on private wooden decks, which have breathtaking views of the river and tranquil mountainous surroundings.

The reserve is situated on a 3000ha game farm and comprises of over 26 different species of animals and a wide variety of birds. Wildlife at the reserve includes the rare Black Impala, Rhino, Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Giraffe, Mountain Zebra and Eland to name but a few ...

Botlierskop is easily accessible from both Cape Town and Port Elizabeth - less than 4.5 hours drive from Cape Town - and lies in the world renowned Garden Route of South Africa.

The reserve is in close proximity to George Airport - a 30 minute drive.

Accommodation comprises of 19 en-suite tents in total, all is elegantly decorated in a romantic, colonial theme with 4-poster beds draped with mosquito nets.

Executive Suites are suitable for 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) or 1 additional adult - on a sleeper couch with a private splash pool.

The Deluxe Tents are en-suite with oval bath tubs as well as an outdoor shower and are situated on the river banks.

The Luxury Tents are en-suite with oval bath tubs and are situated amongst the trees & connected with wooden walk ways to the rest of the camp.

High raised wooden walkways connect each of the tents to the restaurant and lounge area.

To really soak up nature & unwind a minimum of 2 or 3 nights is recommended.

The Fireplace Restaurant provides guests with authentic South African meals, served in an ambient setting with comfortable lounge area to relax. The wooden deck provides a perfect view over the lush surrounds with a fireplace creating a perfect atmosphere.

Enjoy 4x4 game drives and nature walks.

Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is an exceptional place for a day visit, romantic getaway, special function, theme evenings or even an intimate bush wedding making it one of the premium game reserves in South Africa.

Botlierskop was named after one of the spectacular rock formations on the reserve. This odd shaped “koppie” is a landmark in this area. In the late 1700’s Mossel Bay was developed as a busy export harbour for wool, ochre and ostrich feathers. According to the Legend, the “koppie” was used as a look-out point. When ships came in, the owner made a huge fire on the top of the “koppie”. This was a sign for the nearby farmers that a ship was coming in so they could get ready to bring fresh supplies to the ship. The captain of the ship used the fire as an old-fashioned lighthouse.

Botlierskop was bought by Dr. Dirk Neethling in 1996.He has been in the game farming industry since 1960 and saw the opportunity to reintroduce wildlife in this area. After 4 years of recovering from domestic farming Botlierskop was ready to open in the year 2000, allowing guests to experience the beautiful Cape environment as it was, when wild animals still roamed freely. Today, Botlierskop is a leader in the field of breeding with the rare black impala.

For this very reason the lions are in their own, private camp and can be viewed on the 4x4 safari. This of course also provides a safe environment for horse back safaris & nature walks - the ever elusive leopard is hardly seen due the size of the reserve & hunt at night.

The gentle giants of the bush are also part of the Botlierskop experience. The two elephants that joined the Botlierskop team, Sam and Tsotsie, are orphans surviving a culling program in the Zambezi Valley, Zimbabwe. The male, Sam is 24 years old and the female, Tsotsie, is 21 years old. Tsotsi means naughty or mischievous for she was quite a troublemaker as a youngster.

Due the fact that bush picnics and elephant back rides are also offered & their huge appetites, these gentle giants are also in their own territory separate from the other animals.

Other activities at Botlierskop include: Elephant back rides, Helicopter flips, picnic in the bush, Horseback safaris & fishing.

Come & relax overnight or should you be short of time pop in as a day visitor for a game drive or any of the other activities.
