With the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop and sweeping views out over the glistening Indian Ocean below, lies Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. It is just 4.5 hours drive from Cape Town, it’s midway between Mossel Bay and George, on South Africa’s scenic Garden Route.

This gracious family-owned and privately-operated game reserve is malaria-free and home to four of the Big 5 (lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) as well as cheetahs and a host of antelope, including rare black impala, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, hippo and more.

Just 6.4 km from the original Botlierskop Game Reserve lies the newest addition to the family – The Village Lodge, remote enough for a country escape, near enough for a wonderful day out. Offering magnificent views of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains, the Lodge is set on the landmark Kleinvlei Farm, which now forms part of this picturesque 4,200-hectare, malaria-free reserve. The child-friendly, 16-bedroom Village Lodge is located on the northern side of the Reserve, close to the historical Friemersheim, the original mission station and site of the slave quarters for Great Brak River.

The Village is a harmonious collection of new and vintage houses, some dating back to the 1800s. Each house is individual in style, but uniform in luxury, style and comfort. These have been lovingly-restored to blend in with their modern, contemporary-country style counterparts. Each unit is en-suite with spacious, light-filled open-plan interiors. There is also a family wing where each of the four suites has its own entrance and patio with either a garden or mountain view.

The expansive herb and vegetable gardens are laid out in a wagon-wheel formation with central focal dams Watermollen (Watermill) and Perdedam (Horse Dam) – also known as Grootdrink of Dors (Large Drink or Thirsty). The water flows past the houses in a series of canals.

The abundant fresh produce that’s lovingly coaxed from these gardens supplies the popular Bellevue Restaurant, formerly the district’s school house. Local legend has it that one of the last pupils of The Bellevue School in 1938 maintained that Kleinvlei had one of the strongest athletics team of all the rural schools in the area.

The Village Lodge is child friendly and all ages are welcome. Aside from sailing paper boats in the canals, your young ones can enjoy the playground, spacious lawns, sandpit, swimming pool, tadpole fishing and pony rides, while you take time out to relax at the Botlierskop Fijnebos Spa, go on a guided bush trail or horseback safari.

Overnight guests get to experience a range of activities from safari 4×4 game drives, horseback safaris, pampering spa therapies, dining in our restaurant, and relaxing on the spacious decks overlooking the game and swimming pools, there truly is something for everyone.

Botlierskop activities that depart from the Village include guided game drives and bush walks. More activities on offer depart from Botlierskop Tented lodge (amount 15 min transfer through the reserve by your guide) and include a visit to the Fijnebos Spa with various spa treatments as well as horseback safaris. Village guests can also visit our Day Centre and enjoy the restaurant and leisure facilities.

Fijnebos Spa is custom-built according to the wishes and suggestions of our guests, we’re sure you’ll find it has all you could ask for.

Bellevue Restaurant | The Village Lodge has a child and family-friendly restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a bar area.

Swimming pools | Close to the Restaurant and fountain sprinklers for smaller kids.

Kids Playground | Kids of all ages are welcome and the kid’s playground includes a sandpit, frog (tadpoles) fishing, guided game drives and paper boats in the canal, and many more.

Kids Club | Kids can join the CLUB and follow the daily program provided including frog (tadpoles) fishing, paper boats in the canal, gardening, junior ranger on safari, clay play, and many more. This is inclusive for full board packages but can also be joined by other accommodation kids at an additional fee.

Babysitting: Although kids of all ages are welcome on the game drives we do offer this service at an additional cost.

Wi-Fi | Available in all rooms and the restaurant for accommodation guests free of charge.

Tennis Court | At Botlierskop main lodge ~Transfer through the reserve available daily. Feel free to make use of our tennis court situated at the foot of the Botlierskop hilltop. The tennis court can be used during the day or evening as it is equipped with lights. Tennis equipment is available at Botlierskop.

Bellevue Restaurant, originally The Bellevue School and later operated as a shop is one of the highlights at The Village. One of the last pupils of The Bellevue School in 1938 said that Kleinvlei had one of the strongest athletics teams of all the rural schools in the area. The Bellevue Restaurant mostly serves an a la carte menu but occasionally does buffets and dinner barbeques upon request. The menu includes pizza, salads, sandwiches and meat dishes. Guests can enjoy a scrumptious meal or for a relaxing afternoon, come and enjoy a cocktail while watching the most amazing sunset. The Restaurant is very trendy with a Village atmosphere to please the most discerning palate, so bookings are highly recommended. The Restaurant is open to the public but limited space is available. Please note that the pool area is exclusively for use by accommodation guests only. Kindly note booking essential. Open 12:00-15:00 and 19:00-22:00
